Professor Sam Sophonn was born in 1961 in Kampong Cham province. He is the seventh son among nine siblings. He has lived through 4 government regimes, passed by the difficulties, pains, poverty, and war and especially survived from Pol Pot regime. In 1979, when Khmer Rouge collapsed, we were reborn. There were only 6 siblings remaining. His two sisters and one brother have been killed during that time. It was luck if we compare to other family which has been all killed. In 1980, he came to Phnom Penh and decided to take an entrant exam in Fine Arts School majoring in painting which is his favourite subject since he was a child. After a hard working he graduated in 1985. Then in 1987, he became a professor of Graphic Design and Painting. From 1989 to 1990, he had an internship in Moscow, Russia. Later he came back to Phnom Penh and he worked once again as professor of Painting at Fine Arts School.
